STH: Please tell us your name and how you came about this name.
My name is SassySingz. I’ve always been called sassy growing up, (I really don’t know why lol) and as I began to take my music career a little more seriously, it was brought to my attention that I needed a twitter account. I had no clue what twitter was at the time but it sounded important so I did it. Problem was, Sassy and SassyCat had already been taken and I didn’t want to put any numbers on my name. Since I am a fan of Trey Songz, I figured since he’s songz, I’ll be singz lol. I never really intending for this to be my name, it was supposed to be for twitter only. I went to a tweet and meet party and people that recognized me from my twitter avi, called me SassySingz and I started to correct them til Dj Fatt Boi of JamSquad Djs, told me to stop correcting people lol. He said, “That’s your name now. Leave it alone.” Lol so that’s what I did.
STH: How long have you been pursuing your dream of music?
I’ve been seriously pursuing this dream for about three years now but I’ve been creating my own music and sound since 2001.
STH: What influenced your decision to become an artist?
The economy lol. I’ve always loved music and I’ve always sang but it was never in my plan to be a full fledge artist. It was…something to do at first. Then as I attained my degree in nursing and became a Registered Nurse, it became the thing that I was going to start working on and funding to see how far I could go. But as months passed and I couldn’t find a job as a new RN, I had to find other means of income. So I started to sing….EVERYWHERE lol.
STH: For the people that have never met you, how would you describe yourself?
I am extremely silly and extra! LOL! I love to laugh as you can probably tell. But I’m serious about my career. Some call me a workaholic and I agree. I can be anal about my music but I attempt to do everything with excellence and too it’s perfection. I go hard because I have nothing left to lose. When you’re at the bottom, the only place left to go…is up, to the top.
STH: What makes your music different from what’s out right now?
The thing that makes me different is that I’m able to get a listener to not just hear me sing but feel me sing. I am a huge fan of Mary J. Blige and I sing from my soul, just as she does. So whatever I’m feeling, good or bad, I aim to sing it right into you. Not just at you. The topics that I sing about, also separates me from the rest. I sing about relationships, the good and the bad because I miss the days when R&B was about love and life. My purpose is to bring love back to the music.
STH: What do you want your audience to take from your music?
I want my audience to know love; the good and the bad. Nowadays, if you express your emotions, you’re told to get out of your feelings. I don’t believe that, that is the way to be. God didn’t create us that way. But as a result, music has no feelings. Music is about money, sex and more money and sex. I want my audience to know love, to embrace love, to experience love and even get mad at love because that’s life lol. The way Toni Braxton, Faith Evans, Mary J and more made me feel when I listened to their music, especially in the 90’s.
STH: Are you signed? Who are you affiliated with?
I am not signed to any major labels but I do have my own label, Feline Royale Ent. I ‘m affiliated with Sparks Marketing & Management, Dj Lucky C of JamSquad Djs, Kalalloo Ent., SupportTheHustle.com, DaBuzzEnt.com and more to name a few.
STH: What are you currently working on?
I just wrapped up my second videos hoot for my song “On You”. I’m really excited and nervous about it too lol. I am also in the studio working on my next project, which will be titled “UnSpoken”. I’m hoping to release it before the end of the year.
STH: How many projects or singles have you released?
I’ve released one “official single” which is titled “No Reason” on iTunes. I’ve released many other songs like “True Love”, “Maybach Miami”, “The Threat” and “On You” I have one mixtape out called “The Threat”.
